Il Sugo Italian Kitchen is an Italian restaurant located in Meridian that is locally owned and operated by Grant and Hayleigh Rosendahl. The restaurant was started in 2019 and has become a local favorite ever since. Kaitlin Powell was able to interview Grant Rosendahl about il Sugo. 

How did you choose the name of your restaurant?

 So il Sugo translated to Italian means “the sauce,” and we specialize in our sauces! Our slogan is Idaho Italian Comfort Food. 

How do you choose the recipes for your menu?

The recipes are a combination of places we have traveled to in Italy and family recipes. 

Are you currently working on any other business ventures?

Yes, we are always looking to expand our business and we have a few exciting ideas we are currently working on.

What is the best part about owning il Sugo?

The best part of owning il Sugo is all of the quality people we get to interact with everyday, both customers and staff members. 

What dish do you recommend everyone try?

That is a tough question, but I always recommend the Filet Mignon with Fettuccine or the Chicken Parmesan. 

What is your personal favorite item from the menu?

My personal favorite is the Bolognese with Linguine and the Italian Sausage with Penne. 

What made you get into the restaurant business?

I have been in the restaurant industry since I was 14, working in different areas of the business from hotels, to bars, to managing restaurants. I have a strong passion for food and people which has led me to a lifelong career in the food and beverage industry.
